Philosophy
ISC has a precise and simple philosophy.
Detect Correct Respond
The DCR philosophy was developed by the Inside Sports Clinic staff to provide a consistent and concrete process of treating conditions. DCR also creates simplification so the patient can understand the process. Patients that understand the what, how’s and why’s of their condition will better follow through and participate in their care. This provides a better chance of resolution of their issue.
Resolution is the key. ISC resolves problems. Many providers focus on the symptoms to guide the plan of care. ISC focuses on the biomechanical flaw that is creating your symptoms. This philosophy is proven to help the patient overcome the symptom but more importantly reduce the risk or recurrence.
Finally, our overall goal: Treat while maintaining the patient or athlete’s activity level.
Detect
Detecting the cause of the symptoms is important in minimizing the pain quickly and effectively but is the major key in reducing recurrence risks. The ISC staff utilizes several techniques to identify biomechanical flaws. Digital Xray, foot mapping, gait analysis, muscle balance and range of motion testing can be used to provide valuble information.
Correct
The correction phase focuses on the symptoms of the injured or over stressed area. ISC utilizes many different modalities in the clinic. Because of the many options available, the staff has the ability to provide what will be the most effective.
Respond
The respond phase focuses on stabilizing the affective area and returning the patient to whatever activity allows them to meet whatever goals they have. Responding with stabilization exercises in the clinic at home or by seeing our in-house physical therapy, enables our patients to not only respond but be better than ever.

Ann Marie Chappell Professional Runner
Dr. Phillips and the rest of the ISC professionals are an integral part of my marathon training and recovery. When I first came to Dr. Phillips, I had a chronic hip problem that had bothered me for two years following pregnancy. I had been to other doctors who had treated my symptoms, but who had not eliminated the problem. Within five minutes, Dr. Phillips had identified the imbalance, explained it to me in a way that made sense, and outlined our general approach. My hip feels better and stronger than it has in years, and I also feel more balanced, stable, and efficient.
In addition to alleviating my pain, Dr. Phillips’ comprehensive plan has also helped me to better understand the mechanics of running and to strengthen some of my weak areas. During each session, Dr. Phillips listens as I describe how I’m feeling, and then tweaks our routine to reflect that. In the clinic, he uses a combination of chiropractic manipulations, physical therapy modalities, and assisted stretches, and then shows me exercises and drills I can do at home to further my progress. One of the things I really appreciate about ISC is that my treatment doesn’t end when I walk out of the clinic – Dr. Phillips expects me to “do my homework” and I have become an integral part of my own treatment. This is a great feeling compared to other quick-fix treatments I’ve tried that didn’t really “make sense.” Instead of relying on a doctor to cure me, Dr. Phillips’ strategy feels more like a partnership where I am equally responsible for the solution.
Before I met Dr. Phillips, it had been an unsettling feeling to know that at any time, my hip could flare up, and that I didn’t have a real solution for it. It was harder to define my limits in training and racing as I always felt I was holding myself back a little, fearing serious injury. Dr. Phillips’ unique approach, with an emphasis on functional strength, helps me feel confident in my workouts, knowing that I am a stronger, more sound & more efficient runner. Not only am I a better prepared athlete, but I am also better prepared for my roles as a wife and mother – having escaped chronic pain, I sleep better, I feel more positive, and I am free to go through my everyday routine without the constant constraint of pain.
